TAHTO Center for Finnish Sports Culture

TAHTO, founded in 1938 as the Sports Museum of Finland, is the main center for the history and culture of sports and physical activity in Finland. At TAHTO, visitors can experience the stories and joy of sport. The exhibitions offer things to do, activities, and history for everyone. Located at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, the complex includes the sports museum exhibitions, the Sports Adventure (Liikuntaseikkailu), one of the world’s most extensive libraries specializing in sports and physical activity, and the national Sports Archives.

TAHTO is the only general sports museum in Finland and carries designated national responsibility for museum activities in the field of sports and physical activity. TAHTO’s Sports Archives serve as the national central repository of documents of Finnish sports organizations.

As a national museum operator, TAHTO reaches more than 100,000 visitors annually, and the impact of its activities can be measured in real time.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT

We operate in a culturally sustainable way, safeguarding valuable cultural heritage for future generations. We identify the environmental aspects related to our operations and continuously assess and improve our activities with environmental considerations in mind. We aim to reduce our environmental impact and increase environmental awareness.

We support our staff and visitors in making environmentally sustainable choices. In our exhibition activities, we strive to reuse and recycle structures and materials. Products selected for the museum shop follow the principles of sustainable development.

The Sports Museum Foundation of Finland

TAHTO Center for Finnish Sports Culture is managed by the Sports Museum Foundation of Finland, established on March 2, 1938. The foundation’s purpose is to collect, research, and exhibit materials related to sports and physical culture.

The Finnish Sports Museum Foundation receives operational funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture.
